Patrizia Casagranda

Patrizia Casagranda, born in 1979 in Krefeld, Germany, is a contemporary artist known for her innovative use of recycled materials and the creation of complex, tactile textures. She has exhibited in six prestigious biennales, including the Venice Biennale, earning international recognition. Her works, marked by grooves, cracks, and splashes of color, challenge conventions and reflect an “used” aesthetic, in which found materials—such as tarpaulins, billboards, jute, and cardboard—acquire new value and meaning.

Her process is distinguished by a multicolored mesh created by mixing plaster and pigments, applied layer by layer through a coarse mesh sieve, producing sculptural dots similar to pointillism. From a distance, these elements merge into portraits of strong, determined women, often icons or symbols of resilience and social commitment. Her works address global themes such as equality, justice, and peace, and, in the artist’s words, “faces tell stories of life.” With their rich visual depth and tactile quality, her creations invite an experience that goes beyond mere observation, offering a reflection on aesthetics and societal values in the contemporary world.
