Giorgio Griffa

Giorgio Griffa (born in Turin in 1936) is a key figure in Italian contemporary art, renowned for his unique exploration of painting as a process. Associated with the analytical painting movement of the 1960s and ’70s, Griffa is celebrated for his works on raw, unframed canvases, where he draws essential marks and lines in vibrant colors. Griffa’s research focuses on the idea of allowing the mark and color to live as integral parts of the canvas, leaving the creation process visible without aiming for perfection.
