Agostino Bonalumi (1935-2013), born in Vimercate (MB, Italy), is a key figure in Italian modern art. His career began in the 1950s in Milan, where he connected with influential artists like Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani, co-founding the magazine Azimuth. It was during this period that Bonalumi developed his innovative “extroflections,” works that deform and tension the canvas, creating a new relationship between painting and space.
Throughout his career, Bonalumi participated in major international events, including the Venice Biennale and the IX São Paulo Biennale, solidifying his connection with the Spatialism movement. His work Blu abitabile, created in 1967, marked the beginning of his exploration of artistic environments.
Recognized with prestigious awards and retrospectives, such as the one at Palazzo Te in Mantua, his works are now part of the collections of renowned museums and continue to inspire collectors worldwide. The retrospective Bonalumi 1958-2013 at the Palazzo Reale in Milan highlights his artistic legacy and his importance in the contemporary art scene.
